...for a field trip!

As you know, we're right in the middle of language school (with a test later this week- yikes!).

On Friday, the whole school took a field trip to some very interesting places.

It was a long, but fun day and we were able to take Caleb with us.

First, we went to Skocjanske jame which is a huge cave in southwestern Slovenia. It was really, really amazing. Thankfully, there was a nice path and a good amount of light so it wasn't scary and you could see all of the crazy features of the cave. We walked for about an hour and a half with our tour guide an even crossed a bridge over a rushing river IN the cave. This cave has the 3rd largest underground canyon in the world! Crazy!

After our spelunkning adventure, we went to a little gostilna (restaurant) to have some famous local soup. Then we were off to an old church.

The fall colors are still looking beautiful, but my camera just doesn't capture them well enough.

You might not think there is a treasure inside this old church, but there is!

Some time during the 50's, a VERY old fresco was discovered underneath the painted walls.

Now it is one of Slovenia's most famous pieces of art for that era called The Dance of Death.

It's not every day you get to see a 15th century fresco.

Of course, you can't take pictures inside, so you'll have to take my word for it!

You can see that Caleb still needs a few years before he appreciates "caving" as much as his dad. =)
