to get to Slovenia!

So here is the long version:

The flight from Denver to London was not too bad. Out of the 8 hours, Caleb slept for about 5. We had the three seats across the middle of the plane so it worked out really well just to lay Caleb on the seat between us for most of the flight. Our layover in London was short and Caleb slept from take-off to landing on the flight to Munich. What a trooper!

When we got to Munich, we were told that two of our bags would be arriving on the next flight in. Thankfully, they were just the snowboard bag and the stroller, so it could have been worse. As it turns out, they were sent on ahead to Ljublana by the ever efficient staff at British Airways and arrived in Slovenia long before we did!

We picked up our rental car and made it to our hotel without any trouble on Thursday evening. After getting cleaned up a bit we found a nice little Italian restaurant and had a big meal before turning in for the night. Caleb went right to sleep but woke up again around 1:30 and partied until about 3:30. We ate pretzels and pound cake from the vending machine in the lobby and watched some CNN (because it was the only channel in English!). We all finally fell back to sleep and didn’t wake up again until 11:30 in the morning! Whoa! But we felt so much better already!

If you’re still reading- I’ll speed things up from here on out….

We made it to the car dealership on Friday afternoon to find the car we wanted looking good but also to find out two pieces of lousy (brand new) information. First, the license plate office closes at 11:30 a.m. (hmmmm, good to know) and the dealership does not except credit/debit cards (hmmmm, good to know). So, had to wait here in Freising, Germany (near the car dealership) until Monday to get the license plates. We had the money wired to the dealership early Monday morning, but as of the close of the business day they had not received it. Our American bank wouldn't let us take out that much cash from an ATM so we just had to wait until Tuesday afternoon when the money wire finally went through.

I have to say that by Monday night I was feeling pretty low about being stuck in the wrong country just waiting and waiting and waiting but my great husband helped me see the light and laughter of the situation and we were still able to see the Lord's hand in the whole thing.

We drove away from Freising on Tuesday afternoon in our great new car. It rained the entire 5 hour trip but our spirits could not be dampened! We pulled in to Josh & Kristi's house around 8 and were so glad to finally be here.

Thank you Lord for being totally in control!

So, the moral of the story is: If you are going to move to a new country, be sure to arrive on a Monday and not a Friday because all of the offices you need to work with will be closed for the weekend! =)
