So here in Slovenia, people do not celebrate Halloween.
I've seen a few Halloween decorations in one store, but it is not a very big deal yet. A few places were advertising Halloween parties here and there, but it is nothing like what we do in the states. That is okay by me because I'm not that crazy about the yucky parts that come with the fun parts of Halloween.
Even still the 31st IS a national holiday. If it were a week day, we would have had a day off of school, but alas it falls on a weekend this year.
October 31st is actually REFORMATION DAY!
It is to remember that it was on this day that Martin Luther nailed his 95 Theses to the door of the Wittenberg chapel, thus pretty much starting the Protestant Reformation. His message was radical for the times, but now it is the central reason for why we are living in Slovenia today:
sinners are saved by grace.
So, being the good parents that we are, we dressed our kid up like 'ol Martin and drove around town to "nail" the 95 theses on our teammates' doors and leave them little presents.
Really, it was a great excuse to teach our son how to play Ding Dong Ditch!
Hey! If my mom could dress me up as the Bearded Lady for our school carnival- I can dress my kid up like a monk! =)
